Coincidiendo con mi medio siglo de vida y vivencias, el equipo base y fundamental de "La Ruta de las Almas", David Arenal, Javier Monteverde, Wanda Pacheco y yo mismo, hemos decidido  lanzar por fin el video definitivo de "Jerusalem", tema que dio luz a este gran proyecto, con la participación de Javier Ruibal, David Broza, Sofia Rei, Sofia Tosello, Suhail Serguini, Rali Margalit, Iván Ruiz Machado, Yosvany Terry, Pedrito Martínez, Tareq Aboushi, Manuel Valera, Moy Natenzon, Ohad Levi y Javier Márquez.

A la vez, anunciamos que el single de esta canción está a la venta online por 0.99 €. Es un primer escalón, inmenso, para poder continuar el camino hasta la culminación del proyecto. Notas y voces en La Ruta III: Canarias y Andalucía En el pasado agosto gracias a Javier Cerpa, amigo y músico, tuvimos el privilegio de recorrer un tramo significativo de esta Ruta, en uno de los enclaves más importante de las idas y venidas entre los llamados nuevo y viejo mundo: Las Islas Canarias, puerto de paso a Las Américas. Muchas de las inmensas riquezas que llegaron a la Metrópoli, cruzaron por esas maravillosas islas cuya conquista comenzó en 1402, 90 años antes de la llegada de Cristóbal Colón a las Antillas. Durante siglos fueron también protagonistas de la travesía de otra gran riqueza y quizás la más importante, esa que viajó en el espíritu de los que se lanzaron a hacer Las Américas buscando una vida mejor, llevando en sus almas el valioso equipaje de sus costumbres, sus cantos, sus formas de tocar y construir instrumentos. Ellos plantaron la semilla del mestizaje en esa interacción entre las diferentes culturas que confluyeron, no siempre de manera feliz, en los territorios de ultramar. Se gestó así una identidad, inédita hasta el momento, que a su vez regresó e influyó en las maneras y costumbres de los antiguos territorios de la corona. Parte del tema que grabé en Gran Canaria fue justamente la suite titulada “La ruta de las almas”. En una cueva de La finca El Junquillo, conocida como El Molino de la Palma, ubicada en Santa María de Guía a unos 20 km. de la capital y a 1 Km. de Gáldar, gracias a la gentileza de su dueño Andrés Santiago Suárez “Moreno”, grabé voces con Beatriz Alonso y Gladys Cabrera, laúd, tambor gomero, tambor herreño y chácaras con Misael Jordán y guitarra española con Javier Cerpa. En el sonido conté con la ayuda magistral de Blas Acosta. En la cámara el excelente y profesional trabajo del veterano Alejandro Ramos. Apoyándome, como siempre, en la producción ejecutiva, la imprescindible Wanda Pacheco y en la logística, Gladys Cabrera, a la que agradezco infinitamente su hospitalidad y su disposición. Comenzando diciembre, justo el 12, mi querido amigo David Arenal y yo partimos hacia Sevilla para emprender la etapa Cádiz-Sevilla-Córdoba. Un paso imprescindible, la herencia de Sefarad y Al-Andalus, la simiente de un gran legado del que también forma parte el flamenco. Cádiz, otra puerta al Atlántico… ”La Habana es Cádiz con más negritos, Cádiz es La Habana con más salero” dice la canción de Carlos Cano, una visión pintoresca, algo bucólica en mi opinión de esos “ires y venires”, pero donde se refleja la hermandad entre las dos ciudades. Atlántica y mediterránea, Gádir, como la llamaron los fenicios, es una de las claves para comprender la rica expresión popular iberoamericana. Su Carnaval es único en el mundo. Nuestro anfitrión, el gran Javier Ruibal, hermano, artista inmenso (gracias a su infinita bondad tuvimos techo en el Puerto Santa María) nos ayudó con la logística en esa parte del viaje. Estuvimos filmando juntos para el video clip de Jerusalén que esperamos tener terminado a finales de enero del 2013. Sus dos hijos, jóvenes y talentosísimos, aportaron su arte a “La ruta”. Lucía y Javier Ruibal Inchaurrondo: ella baila flamenco, él toca las percusiones y la batería. De alguna manera forman parte de mi ruta personal, los conocí de niños, apenas 3 y 5 años; ahora son dos pedazos de artistas que además honran este proyecto con su presencia. En “Salam Obatalá”, Lucía preparó una coreografía espectacular para una secuencia del tema y, en “La ruta de las almas”, Javi tocó la Darbuka. ¡Qué lujo! Otros dos musicazos, amigos (también forman parte de mi ruta personal), Nono García y Tito Alcedo, guitarristas inmensos, aportaron su arte flamenco justo en la suite “La ruta de las almas”. Tito brindó su casa de Barbate para sus sesiones de grabación, en un entorno muy especial y único. Un agradecimiento también a su compañera Ana por la acogida y la atención que los dos nos brindaron y hacernos pasar una tarde estupenda. Con Nono pasó algo inusual. Quedamos en un bar llamado “La isleta” en el casco antiguo. El dueño es un italiano muy sui géneris, Silvano Rossignoli, y uno de sus “bartender” un compatriota, Harold Perdomo. Sucedió que nos dijeron ”graben aquí mismo” y así lo hicimos; montamos todo el tinglado y en los momentos de grabar se daba una voz y todos los que estaban en la barra hacían silencio. ¡Mágico! Que sitio tan especial y todo eso acompañado de unas tapas y un vino exquisito además de una suculenta cena que saldamos con una descarga entre Javier, Nono y yo. Una noche de chuparse los dedos en todos los sentidos. Para Silvano, nosotros estábamos dejando mucho amor en el lugar y eso es lo más importante. “Chapó” para él y su equipo. Sí, señor, “La Buona Vita”. ¡Que se inunde el planeta de bares como éste! Ese fin de semana grabamos en Sevilla. El domingo 16 por la mañana nos fuimos a Almonte, pueblo de donde viene La Virgen de el Rocío. En su entrada hay una columna con un escudo que tiene la cruz, la media luna y la estrella de David; debajo una inscripción donde reza: “A lo largo de muchas centurias convivieron en esta villa las culturas cristiana, judía y musulmana”. Más tarde al pueblo El Rocío, un sitio de poder y a una increíble playa de Huelva. Luisa Cristal, sevillana-portuguesa entrañable, fuerza positiva de la naturaleza, nos acompañó; gracias a ella pudimos movernos por el sur, puso su coche a nuestra disposición. Desde acá quiero agradecerle su apoyo incondicional. Su hermana, mi querida amiga Shio López, otra fuerza infinita, nos acompañó en el viaje, sin ella hubiera sido imposible, además de brindarnos su casa como campamento. ¡Que dicha tener amigos así, somos privilegiados! Cantó para este proyecto y nos conectó con Zamara Carrasco, ¡grande!, algo muy serio, como si las entrañas de la tierra se hubieran materializado en una mujer gitana, ¡uf, qué poder! De casta le viene, es hija nada más y nada menos que de la gran Manuela Carrasco. Grabó palmas y voz . Su compañero de vida, otro gran artista, Gaby López nos regaló una interpretación magistral en la parte flamenca del tema. Esto lo hicimos gracias a Cirilo García que nos dejó su estudio, Chivani room, para filmar y grabar. Por último el lunes 17 nos fuimos a Córdoba, de la mano de Luis Medina, conocedor profundo de la historia de su gran ciudad, capital cultural y política del Califato de Córdoba durante la época musulmana. Testimonios arqueológicos constatan que en ella habitaron alrededor de un millón de personas. En "Corduba" florecieron las letras y las ciencias. Sus espacios públicos estaban llenos de fuentes, iluminados y con un sistema de alcantarillado impresionante. En el período de mayor esplendor califal, durante parte de la Edad Media, se gestaron las bases del Renacimiento europeo. La ciudad conserva una capilla mudéjar: la iglesia de San Bartolomé, construida entre 1399 y 1410. Dentro se puede encontrar, además de la exquisita y hermosa decoración, una faja que reza: “La eternidad es para Allah, la gloria es para Allah”. En Córdoba vivieron en los siglos XII y XIII, entre otros ilustres pensadores, Yehudah Ben Samuel Halevi (Abu-I-Hasan Ibn Leví para los árabes), filósofo, médico y poeta judío español, Moshé Ben Maimón (Maimónides), médico, rabino y teólogo, también judío español, discípulo del gran Abū l-Walīd Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad Ibn Rushd (Averroes), filósofo y médico andalusí, maestro de filosofía, leyes islámicas, matemáticas y astronomía. ¡Qué grandeza¡ un rabino discípulo de un filósofo, maestro islamista que además fue médico de la corte del visir Saladino en El Cairo. Si los tiempos de hoy aprendieran de ese legado, otro gallo cantaría. En este entorno (por las calles de la ciudad antigua, por la judería, la zona de la mezquita donde hoy se respira ese pasado) filmamos. Anduvimos con Luis intentando tocar, palpar con las manos, saborear ese pasado. En su casa nos dejó una voz para el tema “La encrucijada” y en la tarde nos fuimos a 20 km. para grabar a un pianista excepcional, cordobés, Ángel Andrés Muñoz en su estudio. ¡Qué viaje! Intenso, emocionante, óptimo. Aprovechando mis conciertos en Sevilla y Cádiz, pudimos avanzar un tramo muy significativo. Sentí de alguna manera en este trayecto que “La ruta de las almas” conectaba con mi ruta personal, esa que comenzó hace 20 años en la Península, conectada con mi más remota infancia en La Habana, poniendo en su sitio de dónde vengo y a dónde voy, la esencia de mi ser más allá de las fronteras del tiempo y el espacio. El amor mueve montañas; nuestro agradecimiento es tan grande a todos los que han colaborado que sólo podrá ser expresado en su verdadera dimensión al materializarse este proyecto en el disco libro. Como la teoría de los puentes de mi amigo César Martel, tracemos los puentes que nos unen y como dijera el hermano , Adel Ahmad Abdelrahim Omar Ameir (Javier Rahim) en un tema de Magec Ula Salam II, “donde quiera que estés siempre existe el otro lado del puente”. Voices and Notes at The Road III: Canaries and Andalusia Last August, thank to Javier Cerpa, friend and musician, we had the privilege to go across a significant stretch of this Road, at one of the most important settlement of the comings and goings in between the so call New and Old World: Canary Islands, stopping of seaport to the Americas. Many of the immense wealth that came to the metropolis, went through these wonderful islands, which conquest started in 1402, 90 years before Christopher Columbus arrival to Antilles. During centuries, other great wealth were the theme of the trips, and maybe the most important one, the one that traveled in the spirit of those whom went to make the Americas, looking for a better life, taking in their souls the valuable baggage of their costume, their singing, their way of playing and making instruments. They planted the crossbreeding seed of the interaction in between the different cultures that converge, no always happily, unknown to that moment that, at the same time, it came back to influence in the ways and costumes of the older territories of the Crown. Part of the theme I recorded in Gran Canaria was   just the Suite titled "The Road of the Souls". In a cave of El Junquillo country property, commonly named as El Molino de la Palma (the Palm Mill), located at Santa María de Guía, 20 km. from the capital and 1 km from Gáldar, thanks to his owner Andrés Santiago Suárez "Moreno", I recorded the voices with Beatriz Alonso and Gladys Cabrera, lute, Gomeran drum, Herreño drum and chácaras with Misael Jordán, and Spanish guitar with Javier Cerpa. For the sound, I count on the masterly help of Blas Acosta. Behind the camera, the excellent and professional work of veteran Alejandro Ramos. Always, with the support at the ejective production of essential Wanda Pacheco and of the logistic of Gladys Cabrera, to whom I am infinitely thankful for her hospitality and good disposition. Beginning December, exactly on the 12th, my dear friend David Arenal and I took off to Seville to set out on the Cadiz-Seville-Córdoba stage. A necessary walkway, the Sefarad and Al-Andalus heritage, the seed of a great legacy to which flamenco constitutes. Cadiz, another door to Atlántico… "Havana is Cádiz with more little black people, Cádiz is Havana with more grace", Carlos Cano song says, a eccentric vision, somehow bucolic in my opinion of those "comings and goings", that reflects the twinning in between the two cities. Atlantic and Mediterranean Gádir, the way Phoenicians used to call it, is a clue to understand the rich popular Ibero-American expression. It´s Carnival is unique in the world. Our host, the great Javier Ruibal, brother, immense artist (thank to its infinite kindness, we had a roof at Puerto Santa María). He helped us with the logistic on this part of the trip. We filmed together for the Jerusalem video clip (we hope to have it done by the end of January 2013). His daughter and son, young and multi-talented, contribute with their Art to "The Road". Lucía and Javier Ruibal Inchaurrondo, she dances Flamenco, he plays percussions and drum set. Somehow, they are part of my personal route; I met them as children, just 3 and 5 years old, now they are two tremendous artists that, in addition, they honor this project with their presence. In "Salam Obatalá" Lucía prepared a spectacular choreography for a sequence of the theme, and in "The Road of the Souls", Javi played the Darbuka. What a privilege! Another two great musicians, friends (they are also part of my personal route), Nono García and Tito Alcedo, immense guitar players, contribute with their Flamenco Art in "The Road of the Souls" suite. Tito afforded his house at Barbate for the recording sessions, in a very special and unique environment. A gratitude, also to his live-in partner Ana for the welcome and courtesy that both afforded to us, making us have a wonderful evening. Something unusual happened with Nono. We met in a bar named "La isleta" in the old side of town. The owner is a very singular Italian, Silvano Rossignoli, and one of his bartenders a fellow countryman, Harold Perdomo. It happened that they said: "Just record it right in here!" and so we did; We put together the stand and at the time we have to record, they will give a call and everyone on the bar counter will become quite. Magic! What a especial place and all of it, accompanied with some "tapas" and an exquisite wine, besides of a succulent dinner that we paid back with a jam session with Javier, Nono and me. A night to lick your fingers in every sense. For Silvano, we were leaving a lot of love in the place and that is what is most important. "Bravo" for him and his team, yes, Sir, "La Buona Vita (the good life)". Let´s the planet fulfilled with bars like this! That weekend we filmed in Sevilla. On Sunday 16th morning we went to Almonte, village from where the Virgen of El Rocío comes. At its entrance there is a column with a emblem which contains the Cross, the Half Moon and the Star of David; below the inscription it says: "Along many centuries it coexist in this village the Christian, Jew and Muslim Cultures". Later on we went to El Rocío town, a place of power, and to an awesome beach of Huelva. Luisa Cristal, Sevillian - Portuguese intimate, positive nature force, accompany us; thank to her we could move around the south, she put up her car to our needs. From here, I want to thank her for her unconditional support. Her sister, my dear friend Shio López, another infinite force, accompany us during the trip; without her it could it be impossible, besides she offers to us her house as a settlement. What a happiness to have friends like these, we are privileged persons! She sung for this project and she introduced us with Zamara Carrasco, ¡So great!, something really serious, It seem like if the earth depths had materialized inside a Gipsy woman. Ow, what a power! She comes from a lineage, cause she is the daughter of the great Manuela Carrasco. She played claps and sung. Her live-in partner, another great artist, Gaby López gave us a master interpretation of the flamenco part of the theme. We did it thanks to Cirilo García who lend us his studio, Chivani Room, to film and to record. Finally, on Monday 17th, we went to Cordoba, with the assistance of Luis Medina, deep expert of this great city - cultural capital - History and Politics of the Cordoba caliphate during the Muslim age. The archeological testimonies validate that a million people used to live in there. En "Corduba" flourished Humanities and Sciences. Their public spaces were fulfilled with fountains, lighting, and a very impressive sewage system. At the time of the greater  caliphate splendor, sometime during the Middle Ages, the bases of the European Renaissance were brewed. The city keeps a Mudejar chapel: Saint Bartholomew church, builded in between 1399 and 1410. It can be found inside, besides the exquisite and beautiful decoration, a sash that says: "Eternity is for Allah, Glory is for Allah". In Cordoba lived in the XII and XIII centuries, in between others distinguished thinkers, Yehudah Ben Samuel Halevi (Abu‐I-Hasan Ibn Leví to Arabs), philosopher, medical doctor and Jewish Spanish poet, Moshé Ben Maimón (Maimónides), medical doctor, rabbi, theologist and also Jewish Spanish poet, disciple of the great Abū l‐Walīd Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad Ibn Rushd (Averroes), philosopher and Andalusi medical doctor, Philosophy, Islamic Laws, Mathematics and Astronomy master. What a greatness! A rabbi disciple of a philosopher, muslim master who was also a medical doctor at the vizier Saladin Court in Cairo. If we nowadays would learn from this legacy, things would be quite different. At this surrounding (around the old city streets, around the Jewish quarter, the Mosque area where today they breath that past time) we filmed. We walked around with Luis, trying to touch it - the past - feel it with our hands, taste it. At his house, he lend a voice for the theme "La encrucijada - The Dilemma" and in the afternoon, we traveled 20 km. to record a exceptional pianist, from Cordoba, Ángel Andrés Muñoz at his studio. What a trip! Intense, exciting, optimal. Making the most of my Concerts in Seville and Cadiz, we could advance a very significant stretch. I felt somehow during this route that "The Road of the Souls" connected with my personal route, the one that I begun 20 years ago in the Peninsula, connected to my most remote childhood back in Havana, putting in its place from where I come from and where I go, the essence of my being beyond borderlines of time and space. Love moves mountains. Our appreciation is so big to everyone who has cooperate that it could only be expressed in its real dimension with materializing this project into a disc-book. Like in my friend César Martel bridge theory, let´s trace the bridges that connect us. and like Adel Ahmad Abdelrahim Omar Ameir (Javier Rahim) said on a theme of Magec Ula Salam II, "Wherever you are, there is always the other side of the bridge". Seguimos...(Going on...)

Martes 27 de noviembre del 2012 Seguimos……. La Ruta ha vivido un paréntesis en el blog para atender otros proyectos importantes pero ya estamos de nuevo en el camino. Todos los temas están casi terminados, hoy justo acabé la suite que lleva el título del proyecto. ”La Ruta de las almas”. El domingo estuvimos rodando por Lavapiés David Arenal y yo con un  ayudante muy especial, mi hijo Malcom, al que agradezco infinitamente habernos acompañado. El próximo mes nos iremos a Cádiz, Sevilla y Córdoba donde tendremos una agenda bien intensa y emocionante. Hemos incorporado un nuevo elemento al blog, los textos en castellano y en inglés, gracias a la infinita gentileza de Caroline Hollander, quien aportó la excelente traducción que hizo Carol Hine de los post anteriores y toda la información. En próximas entradas iremos informando de como van yendo las grabaciones,  y postearemos un video de “Notas y voces en la Ruta III “mostrando un poco del paso por Las Canarias. Nuestra intención es tener terminado el Disco-Libro para el 2013 Queremos que a comienzos del próximo año esté listo el video clip de Jerusalén para que su promoción y divulgación nos ayude a recaudar fondos. Tuesday, November 27th, 2012 Going on... The Road has experienced a break at the blog to attend other important projects but here we are again on the way. All the songs are almost done, I just finished today the suite that has the title of the project. “The Road of the Soul”. On Sunday, David Arenal and I were filming around Lavapiés with a very special helper, my son Malcom, to whom I thank infinitely for coming with us. Next month we´ll be going to Cádiz, Seville and Córdoba where we´ll have a very intense and exciting agenda. We have added a new element to the blog, the text in Spanish and English, thanks to the infinite kindness of Caroline Hollander, who added the excellent translation made by Carol Hide from the previous posts, and all the information. On the next entries we´ll inform of the progress of the recording and we´ll post a video about "Notes and Voices on the Road III” showing part of the way by the Canary Islands. We have the intention of having finished the CD-Book by 2013. We want to have ready by the beginning of this coming year the video clip of Jerusalem so, its promotion and divulgation will help us to obtain the funds. La Ruta - Momento - Bolero Filin (The Road – Momento – Bolero Filin)

La Ruta - Momento - Bolero Filin Después de casi un mes en Las Islas Canarias, entre tocatas, abrazos de amig@s entrañables, acumulando vida, sueños, esperanzas, rodeado de mar, grabando y filmando un trayecto de esta Ruta, dejando atrás también una larga semana en Bruselas, intensa quietud,  Art Nouveau, sofisticación, sublime conjunción de alma y razón, culto a la exquisitez de la cerveza (ahora se me hace difícil tomar cualquiera) en el ocaso de septiembre y aún sin vislumbrar en Madrid el aliento del otoño, volvemos a la carga, para seguir dando forma al Proyecto audiovisual, el propósito, que en este caso justifica los medios. Lo que hemos hecho hasta ahora directa o indirectamente tiene como objetivo la culminación de este proyecto musicovideológico (sin pretensiones, pero sí con intenciones)… como este Bolero Filin de “Momento”. The Route – Momento – Bolero Filin After almost one month in the Canary Islands, between toccatas, embraces from dear friends, accumulating life, dreams, hopes, surrounded by the sea, recording and filming a part of this Road, leaving behind a long week in Brussels, intense quietness, Art Nouveau, sophistication, sublime conjunction of soul and reason, cult to the exquisite beer (now I have some difficulties to drink anyone else) in the decline of September but without seeing in Madrid the autumn’s breath, we hit the road again continuing to give form to the audiovisual project, the purpose, which in this case justify the means. What we have done until now, directly or indirectly, has as objective the culmination of this Project Musicovideologico (without any pretension, but yes with intentions).... As this Bolero Filin of MOMENTO.  The Road continues.... Notas y voces en la Ruta II (Notes and voices on the road II)

                                   

miércoles, 25 de julio de 2012 Notas y voces en la Ruta II La Ruta de las almas va tejiendo sus caminos, siguiendo las huellas de esa caravana del tiempo dónde la música acompaña el ritmo del andar y las palabras son pájaros lanzándose al vuelo buscando libertad, esperanzas. Notas y voces en la ruta II es un poco más de este largo recorrido, un suspiro, un instante de detenerse a beber para después seguir. Amigos y amigas del proyecto y de la vida, artistas de primer nivel que dejan su huella indeleble en una senda que ya no tiene vuelta atrás.  En agosto, reposando en alguna playa de plata y azúcar, o silbando en acantilados de eco infinito, aprovecharemos para terminar la planificación de la segunda parte del proyecto.  Ya queda menos para el final de esta ruta por el que tantos estáis preguntando, estamos deseando verlo en vuestras manos, socializar esta  ilusion que nos ha colmado. Y así poder dar salida a otros proyectos que ya se nos derraman a borbotones y que queremos también compartir. Gracias a todos los que dan vida a este proyecto y a quienes lo seguís con tanto cariño. wednesday, july 25Th 2012 Notes and voices on the road II The Road of the Souls is going weaving its ways, following the traces of this caravan of the times, where the music stays with the walking rhythms and where the words are birds flying looking for the freedom, the hopes. Notes and voices on the road II is a little more of this long journey, a sigh, a moment of rest for a drink and then to follow. Friends of the project and of  life, great artists who let their traces indelible on this path that has no return. In the month of august, taking a break on a beach of silver and sugar, or whistling in the cliffs full of infinite echoes, we shall take the opportunity to finish the planning of the second part of the project. We are getting closer to the final of this Road for which so many of you are asking, and that we wish to see it in your hands, to socialize this illusion which has fulfilled us. And like that. opening way to other projects that already are pouring out and that we also wish to share with you. Thank you to all those who give life to this project and to those who follow it with so much love. We dedicate to you some of the shooting stars seen those days in an electrifying storm of dreams.
